The yacht builders in Brittany have already presented the concept with the Malango 888 (test in YACHT 21/2014) and Mojito 888: Based on the same hull, the customer has the choice between two different decks - either with a conventional cabin superstructure (Malango) or as a variant with a slightly higher deckhouse with an almost continuous row of windows for more light below deck and better visibility to the outside (Mojito).
Now, in collaboration with designer Pierre Rolland, the shipyard has realised the same idea on a larger scale as the Malango 1088 and Mojito 1088. The innovative dinghy garage in the stern is a typical feature of IDB Marine boats. The dinghy is pulled into a kind of tunnel under the cockpit floor in the direction of travel. However, the storage space remains open aft. This arrangement is only possible thanks to two rudder blades.
The boats in the Malango and Mojito series will also be equipped with a hydraulically retractable swivelling keel. In the case of the new 1088 models, this allows the draught to be reduced from 2.80 metres to just 1.10 metres, making the boats suitable for dry-docking. Another speciality of IDB Marie is the ingenious system for simply mounting the wading props from the cockpit.
The interior remains identical in both the Malango 1088 and Mojito 1088 versions. What is special is the layout with the main bulkhead installed very far forward and the comparatively small forward cabin. This is because the two aft cabins have to be moved quite far forward towards the centre of the boat due to the dinghy garage. Instead of the second aft cabin, the boats can also be equipped with a technical room.
A gross price of 200,515 euros has been announced for the Malango 1088; the Mojito 1088 will be launched on the market for 202,300 euros. In both cases, the sails are not yet included. The first boats of both types should be completed by the end of 2016.
